One of the best things about travelling alone is that you get to meet more people and make friends easily. You're a lot more approachable and less scary on your own, people can tend to take you in a bit and you really have nothing to lose when talking to (non-creepy) strangers because you can just walk away if it gets weird. It was definitely one my of favourite things about the experience, whether they turned out to be lifers or not. I made a really great buddy out of the next door neighbour who was a musician as well, so we had plenty to talk about. He showed me around town (ie. made me walk for bloody miles) and even then drove me to Venice Beach. Now I don't totally recommend getting in a car with a total stranger but as he did live next door and seemed really nice (and innocent!) I went along with it. I'm back home safe now so it turned out to be a good idea but of course put your precautionary hat on when agreeing to these things.
Venice Beach was huge with sand for miles and deep blue waters to match those Californian skies. While Sydney beaches are plenty famous themselves (though I admittedly know very little about them) these LA beaches have a mountain view - What! Not fair at all. Funnily enough we even spotted David Hassellhoff on set that day - Baywatch is real. I also had to take a shot of the "green doctors" - the biggest money-making irony ever. I was hoping to see a bit more life and music along the boardwalk but I think it was a quiet day that day. But gorgeous nonetheless.
